Livin' long and hope to Prosper...

I am going to attempt to get off my considerable duff and do some art I have been wanting to do for me, myself and I. One of my art heroes is Drew Struzan, also known as the "last of the great movie poster artists". Actually this is no longer valid as he retired earlier this year (but I digress...). He is known for movie posters such as nearly all of the Star Wars films, Back to the Future, Bladerunner, Indiana Jones, etc... Not just sci-fi stuff - films like Shawshank redemption, Police Academy(s), Meatballs, etc...you get the point. This guy has produced some of the best in illustration and has done it with paint, sweat and gumption. No computers. Ever. Most folks that know me know I do a bunch of digital art. Heck, it's my bread and butter at work, but my heart lives in the traditional art world. I am going to attempt to do a "Struzen-esque" piece based on the 2009 Star Trek film. Before anything rears up...yes, I liked the film a lot and I'm old school Star Trek Fandom. Ain't gonna change my mind and I don't wanna go there. Hope to hear critiques on the art when I post and any opinions will be considered through this process. Also, if you feel you would like some art as a commission, feel free to ask! Gotta keep my wife and cats fed! Thanks and be well...

And away we go!...

Today is New Year's Day - the start of the 2010 calendar. This is the start of many things for me...
-my first blog
-my hope's for friend's and family to be well and chime in here as often as you can.
-a place to share my thoughts, dreams, and art with the digital world. This is a real leap of faith for me, as I am not accustomed to such vulnerability. I ask for honesty with replies, but insist on no hating, profanity, controversies, or freakishness here. Plenty of other places on the net to do that. I am doing this for my own selfish, cathartic reasons, but want to be more of a social animal than I have been in the past. Feel free to share with me in kind as I am very interested in what you have to say no matter how trivial. Looking forward to a great 2010 and looking forward to hangin' with ya'll. Be well.
